Film and Photography
This project came to mind after I read your initial brief. The priority was a film around 10 minutes in duration but a few photographs would also be useful.
I needed to recce the location for the film as I’d be working solo, shooting observational footage with sound and recording interviews. Time and budget were tight so I proposed taking the photographs during the recce. This had the added benefit of getting the children and staff used to seeing me around with my cameras and made things much more relaxed when I switched to video on the ‘shoot’ days.
The recce day produced 578 edited photographs, of which I’ve uploaded 250 to the gallery below. Of course there’s a lot more people and places to cover in a school environment but I’m used to working fast and making the most of limited time. I remember Spurs used to let me in the dressing room for only 10 minutes before a game and I’d still get a set of a hundred pictures. The lives of others are fascinating to me, whatever they do with them.
I’m wondering if we can adopt this approach for your project, using the recce days to get the photographs and interviews as well and the shoot days for the video? I think the examples below show how cohesive and productive it can be.
